Polly Pope has been appointed to the panels of the Cayman International Mediation and Arbitration Centre (CI-MAC) and BVI International Arbitration Centre (BVI IAC).

New Zealand has a strong legal reputation in the Cayman Islands and the BVI, and Polly brings her experience as a leading New Zealand arbitrator to the panels. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a member of the arbitration and construction adjudication panels of AMINZ and the NZDRC, a member of the AMINZ Arbitration Appeals Tribunal, and of the Reserve Panel of the SIAC.

Polly balances her work as counsel in commercial disputes with her work as an arbitrator. Explaining this mix, Polly says “acting as a decision maker has made me a better advocate for my clients, and counsel work gives me a breadth of work that I think helps make me a better decision maker .”

Since joining Bankside at the end of 2023 Polly has won a series of instructions to act as lead counsel in commercial disputes, notably in construction, financial sector, and insolvency matters. Her public successes this year include obtaining a series of high-profile judgments acting for an international investor in a South Island development.

Polly is the only non-silk barrister to be recommended for commercial litigation by Lexology.

CI-MAC opened in 2012, delivering efficient, flexible dispute resolution services, specialising in arbitration and mediation. The Cayman Islands has a strong history of enforcing foreign awards and is an appealing jurisdiction due to the relative ease and efficiency of obtaining enforcement of foreign awards.

An independent not-for-profit institution, the BVI IAC was established in 2016 to provide a world-class arbitration facility in the British Virgin Islands and promote the jurisdiction as a leading arbitration hub for resolving international disputes.
