Prominent barristers’ clerk appointed as independent Singapore Coordinator

Singapore-based David Grief, a giant in the dispute resolution business with over 50 years’ experience as a mentor, adviser and connector of barristers, has been appointed as the group’s independent Coordinator.

David Grief spent 50 years as one of the first-generation modern Senior Clerks at the English Commercial Bar. Since establishing David Grief International Consultancy (DGIC) in 2021, he has strengthened his global network of lawyers and other professional advisers, working with lawyers on both their personal and professional development. David’s clients include Silks, leading individuals and talented juniors from the UK, Australia, Singapore, India, Malaysia and Pakistan.

“David’s expertise in connecting the right lawyer with the right case is evident from his stellar career in both London and Singapore,” says Hon Paul Heath KC. “We, at Bankside Singapore, are thrilled to have David’s support as our Singapore Coordinator.”

Through this collaborative arrangement, David will serve as Bankside Singapore's Coordinator while continuing to operate independently through DGIC.

"I am delighted to collaborate with Bankside Singapore as their Coordinator at this exciting time of growth,” says David Grief. “Having spent five decades helping lawyers find the right legal talent for their cases, I see tremendous opportunity in bridging Bankside's world-class dispute resolution specialists with solicitors and clients across the Asia-Pacific region.”

David Grief with distinguished international arbitrator and Bankside Associate Member, Sir David Williams KC, at Bankside Singapore’s cocktail function in October 2024, in Auckland, where David was introduced to the New Zealand litigation community and shared insights into his remarkable career.

An enduring commitment to Singapore

Since their launch in November 2022, Bankside Singapore has remained the first and only New Zealand group of expert international arbitrators, adjudicators, mediators and advocates, committed to an enduring presence in Singapore.

The group has extensive experience in resolving highly-complex cross-border disputes and an understanding of Asian culture and the Asia-Pacific legal landscape.

They have demonstrated their dedication to the region by having two permanent lawyers operating out of their Singapore office at Maxwell Chambers – Bankside Barristers Karen Chow and Rina See – and supporting local educational programmes offered by the Law Society Society and the Singapore Academy of Law.

“The team's commitment to establishing genuine roots in Singapore – both in terms of personnel and premises – demonstrates its long-term dedication to this dynamic market,” says David Grief. “As an independent consultant, I look forward to creating valuable synergies between Bankside Singapore and David Grief International Consultancy's clients and connections worldwide. Together, we will create a stronger and more competitive Independent Bar in the Asia-Pacific region.
