We are delighted for Simon Mount KC on his appointment as a High Court Judge, announced last Friday, 11th April 2025.

Simon has been with Bankside Chambers for 15 years, with a successful practice in public law, criminal and regulatory law, including health and safety, professional discipline and public inquiries.

Prior to joining Bankside, Simon was a Crown prosecutor at Meredith Connell, and was seconded to Crown Law as a Crown Counsel from 2008 to 2009. He began his career as a Judges' Clerk in 1995, received a Fulbright Scholarship in 1997, and completed an LLM from Columbia Law School in New York in 1999. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2017.

Simon is admitted to practise law in the Cook Islands and has been Attorney-General of the Pitcairn Islands since 2015, serving as the principal legal adviser to the Governor of Pitcairn.

Simon joins a distinguished group of Bankside barristers to have made the move to the High Court bench, including Hon Lyn Stevens CNZM KC, Hon Peter Woodhouse KC, Justice Mary Peters, Hon Kit Toogood KC, the late Hon Nick Davidson KC, Justice Rebecca Edwards, Justice David Johnstone, Justice Laura O’Gorman, and Retired Associate Judge Warwick Smith.

Justice Mount’s appointment will take effect on 1 June 2025. He will be sworn in on Thursday 5 June 2025 at the Auckland High Court.
